Compact design and installation flexibility

The housing of the UNAS 2 is made of polycarbonate and has been deliberately kept small (135 × 129 × 223.7 mm) to fit even in limited spaces. Because the power supply runs via PoE++ (via the same network cable), you do not need a separate power adapter, although a 60 W PoE++ injector is included for situations without a suitable switch. You place the drives from the bottom in one shared tray, which simplifies installation, although hot swapping is not possible.

Hardware & performance

Inside you will find a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor at 1.7 GHz and fixed 4 GB memory (not expandable). Due to the relatively simple hardware design, the UNAS 2 is especially suitable for light to moderate workloads: for example backups, shared storage, media files and integration with your UniFi environment. In practice, the NAS delivers fast transfer speeds of up to over 250 MB/s when reading and approximately 170 MB/s when writing.

Network & extensions

The UNAS 2 uses a single 2.5 GbE RJ45 port that provides both data and power via PoE++. For additional storage or temporary backups, there is a USB-C port (5 Gb/s), but this only supports external storage media such as hard drives or SSDs.

Software and management

The UNAS 2 runs on UniFi's NAS software and integrates seamlessly within the UniFi ecosystem. You can manage users, set snapshots and perform backups via the web interface or UniFi dashboard. Supported file protocols such as SMB and NFS make remote access easy. Features such as disk encryption or virtualization services are not available, which is what the Pro variants are intended for.

When do you choose the UNAS 2?

If you're already using UniFi hardware and want a simple, reliable NAS for backups, shared storage or archiving, the UNAS 2 is a strong choice. However, if you want maximum flexibility, expandability or advanced features, the Pro models are more suitable.
