It is intended for simple discrete components, both wired and SMD components, such as resistors, capacitors, coils, etc. But you can also easily build adapters with it. There is a hole in the middle, e.g. for contacts or antennas etc. If you want to drill it out, you have to be careful not to cause a short circuit with the ground plane on the back.
